Paper Stacks

The Altered Page is having a collaborative event today. It's very simple to participate. Just take a picture of any of your stacks of paper and post it to your blog. Any stack will do. We've all got them. Some of us hide them, others display them proudly, and yet others, like me, pretend they don't exist. They're not displayed with any pride, they just stick out like a sore thumb.

Here's a picture of my most recent stack. (made all the more untidy by the fact that I'm in the middle of putting up my fall decorations requiring me to take down a few of the minis I usually have on display).

It includes a few handmade minis, my art journal, some paper that I'm planning to use in an 8X8 themed album I'm getting ready to start, a sketch pad, and a couple of photos I printed out.

Check out some of the other stacks at the Altered Page. It might just make you feel a little bit better about some of your own paper stacks.

Art Journal Collage

I've been away most of the last two weeks. While traveling I had very little time to journal but found airports a great place for thinking and sketching. Needless to say, most of what I did journal the last couple of weeks had to do with missing my family, dealing with airport delays, and working in unfamiliar places. 

Yesterday I tried something different. No journaling about airports, drives down strange highways in rental cars, and less than comfy shuttle rides to hotels. My thoughts were more focused on the day to day.

I've seen some really fun journal pages from collaged magazine pages and thought I would put some of my thoughts on paper using someone else's art.

I collaged this page using gel medium to attach a few torn pages from a magazine. The words express my thoughts about my art journal and how it has helped me to overcome some challenges and how to express my thoughts through different mediums. (plus I got to read a few short magazine articles)

June P12

Had a little extra time yesterday so I put together a layout using the Project 12 sketch for June.

I'm still not following the official rules of the challenge, (scrapping the events of the month), but I am getting photos down on paper, which of course is my own personal challenge.

Here's what I came up with. As you can see, I only used the left side of the sketch. 

This layout gets me caught up on the challenge, (love that phrase "caught up"), and brings my total pictures scrapped for the month to, (drum roll please), FOUR! I need to get busy.

Purple People Presents

Yes, ridiculous title. My daughter thought I was nuts but it suited the story of the photos, (the pictures were taken at one of our local beaches. Framed and wrapped in pretty paper my girls gave them as Christmas gifts). This is also my take on the May Project 12 sketch and my first layout using wet media, (I used watercolor paint on the stamped flowers).

I love the flower I made using a punched scalloped circle with a button for the center and trimmed with book text. Using the book text for trim is a technique I learned at one of the Donna Downey classes I took a couple of weeks back at She Scrapbooks in The Villages, FL, (yes, that's really the name of the town).

I didn't want to do another double page layout so I shrunk down the scaling while trying to squeeze as many elements of the original into my page. (sometimes after I finish a layout from a sketch there's very little of the original plan left and this one seems to be no exception).

Art Journaling

Recently I've started an art journal. I like to write, (I'm sure you've noticed some of my wordy posts), and I love playing with all sorts of media, (especially the messy media), so this is a project tailor made for me. Something about art journaling relaxes me and, since my journal can be shared or kept private, I can create without worrying about the end result. Here's my first entry.

The mix of media used in this project includes paint, ink, fabric and rub ons. 

I owe the spark of this new passion to Julie Fei-Fan Balzer at Balzer Designs. She posts new journaling projects everyday at her Art Journal Everyday site.
